Brooklyn Dodgers

The Brooklyn Dodgers were established in 1883, they were originally known as the Brooklyn Atlantics, then the Brooklyn Grays. In 1895 newspapers referred to the team as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers; they shortened it and the name stuck.

Jackie Robinson

The Dodgers were the first team to break the Color Barrier and to have an African American play in Major League Baseball. Jackie Robinson played his first game in the majors leagues on April 15, 1947. He later went on to win the Rookie of the Year award. Years later he would retire and become inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame as a Dodger.

Move to Los Angeles

When owner Walter O' Malley was unable to find a suitable area for a new stadium due to political and legal issues, the City of Los Angeles offered the franchise an enticing offer, the prospect of bringing Baseball to the West Coast and a space to build a stadium. The Brooklyn Dodgers would play their last game at Ebbets Field on September 24, 1957. On April 18, 1958 They would play their first game in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In Los Angeles the Dodgers would win World Series Titles in 1963, 1965, 1981, and 1988.

FOX News Corporation Ownership

In 1998, the O'Malley family sold the Dodgers to FOX News Corporation.

Frank McCourt Ownership

In 2004 Real Estate Developer Frank McCourt purchased the team from News Corp.
