November 8, 2007: With a tidal surge of up to 3 meters moving southward from the North Sea, the Thames Barrier was closed to protect London from what could have been it's worst flooding in decades. 50mph winds, coupled with an exceptionally high tide and low pressures, had weather experts concerned for a "perfect storm" scenario that could have spelled disaster for England's capital city. While the city was ultimately sparred, the forecast was a reminder of London's eminent flood risk.
