Lifeboat 13

Lifeboat 13 is a movie based on the true story of four chaplains who gave up their life jackets as their ship, the Dorchester, sank off the coast of Greenland during World War II. The screenplay was acquired by producers Michel Shane and Anthony Romano.

The four chaplains

On February 3, 1943, the USAT Dorchester was hit by a German torpedo while en route from Newfoundland to Greenland and quickly began to sink. As soldiers struggled in the icy waters, four chaplains on board the transport vessel worked frantically to help everyone into rescue boats and comfort the wounded. The men offered up their own life jackets when the supply ran out, and eventually perished when the Dorchester sank into the Atlantic Ocean.
