Lawanda Jackson, who formerly worked for UCLA Medical Center, was charged with violating medical privacy laws after she allegedly sold medical information on actress Farrah Fawcett to the National Enquirer. Jackson also reportedly accessed the records of several other patients including Maria Shriver and Britney Spears.1

Actress Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer on September 29, 2006. Fawcett was treated with chemotherapy. She gave the following statement about her diagnosis, "Throughout the journey of my life, I have maintained a strong faith in the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity. I deeply believe in one's own positive will to overcome even the most daunting challenges. I am resolutely strong and I am determined to bite the bullet and fight the fight."3
Later, details of Fawcett's cancer appeared in the National Enquirer. An investigation was launched to find the source of Fawcett's breach of privacy.2
