Laura Van Ryn along with
Whitney Cerak and three other people were involved in a car accident on interstate 69 in
Indiana. The authorities at the time told her parents that she was still alive while Whitney and the other passengers in the van had died. It wasn't until five weeks later that they realized that their daughter had passed away at the scene and the girl lying in the hospital bed was
Whitney Cerak. It was a case of mistaken identity. Clues were evident from the beginning that something was off but the Van Ryn's didn't think much of it. The book,
Mistaken Identity, written by
Don and Susan Van Ryn,
Colleen and Newell Cerak,
Whitney Cerak and contributor
Mark Tabb chronicles what both families went through.
