Kyrgyzstan Earthquake
A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit Kyrgyzstan on October 5, 2008. More than 70 people were reported dead in the quake, which was located in the south of the country near its border with China.1 Several aftershocks were felt in the region and the death toll was expected to rise.2 An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 hit the area in 2003, killing 268 people and destroying 20,000 homes.3
