The Protector
"Kuvasz" comes from the Turkish term for "protector." The breed does exemplify the most celebrated of canine attributes: loyalty, even to the point of self-sacrifice.1 The Kuvasz, however, may require an equally devoted human companion. It is highly sensitive, suspicious of strangers and known to act independently to protect loved ones against perceived threats.2 Such a temperament in a large dog requires a responsible and attentive owner.
