Kevin Rudd

Guide Note: Kevin Rudd will be Australia's 26th Prime Minister, having defeated incumbent Liberal Party leader John Howard's bid for a fifth term in November of 2007. One of his first actions as prime minister was to issue an Official Apology to Australia's "Stolen Generations". He has actively pursued other social campaigns during his first months in office and, in February, 2008, set a record for Australian prime ministers be receiving 70% approval rating in an opinion poll. On March 28, 2008 he began an 17 day trip abroad with a meeting with George W. Bush. The two are expected to discuss relations between the two countries and differences of opinion on issues like the Iraq War and Climate Change.
