Kevin Piskura

Guide Note:24 year old Kevin Piskura was tased by police officers following a bar fight on April 19, 2008, in Oxford, Ohio. A week after the incident, Piskura died on Thursday, April 24, 2008.

The altercation started in the Brick Street Bar around 2:00 a.m. The fight was between Piskura, a friend and bouncers at the bar. The fight then proceeded outside after Piskura was escorted out. Officers on routine bike patrol tried to arrest Piskura's friend, Steven Gene Smith, for disorderly conduct.

Piskura tried to interfere with the arrest and was brought to the ground by police officers who then proceeded to taser him. After being tasered, Pikura collapsed and was handcuffed. Officers noticed his breathing was labored. He was rushed to McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford. From there he was flown by Aircare to University Hospital in Cincinnati where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Oxford police will conduct an internal "use of force" review. The Butler County Prosecutor's office is also doing an independent investigation. The name of the officer responsible for the tasering has not been released. Fast Facts:
