Actress Kelly McGillis appeared in several notable 1980s film, including Top Gun, The Accused and Witness, for which she earned her only Golden Globe nomination.

Though she has not recently appeared as a lead female in Hollywood films, she continues to make frequent television and stage appearances. She appeared on an episode of The L Word in 2007.

Rape and The Accused

McGillis plays the role of District Attorney Kathryn Murphy, representing the Jodie Foster character in The Accused. She was originally offered the role of Sarah Tobias, but turned it down, thinking it would be too close to her own experience of being raped as a young woman by Leroy Johnson.

Personal Life

McGillis has been married and divorced twice. She has two children with her second husband, Fred Tillman. McGillis had part-ownership in a restaurant named "Kelly's" in Key West, Florida, though she no longer has a stake in it after her second divorce.
