Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin is a self-proclaimed "D-list" celebrity, reality show star and stand-up comedian whose act is largely based on making fun of celebrities and her own interactions with them.

Griffin's began performing in the early 1980s with LA-based improv troupe The Groundlings. She became a regular on LA's alternative comedy scene, doing stand-up with Un-Cabaret and in her own solo shows. Her solo gigs led to a 1998 HBO special. Simultaneously, Griffin was appearing in small parts in films and television shows, culminating with a regular role in the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan.

In 2005, Griffin's Bravo reality program Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List debuted. The show won an Emmy Award for its second season. Griffin's acceptance speech for the award met with controversy when she mockingly said, "...suck it, Jesus, this award is my god now." Griffin responded to the controversy by saying, "Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?"

Filming of Griffin's reality show continues, and she remains an active stand-up comedian and red carpet commentator.
