Anyone can be the star
The concept of karaoke caught in quickly in Japan, and soon spread across the world. By the early 1990s, there were tens of thousands of restaurants and bars hosting weekly, and even sometimes nightly, karaoke parties. The machine itself usually includes a mixing board, two or more disc players, speakers, and a monitor.
Karaoke in the home
With the rapid advancement in technology in the video game console and personal computer industry, it's now possible for anyone to turn their console or computer into a karaoke machine. In fact, several programs such as Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore and Guitar Hero 4 have popularized the concept of people having their own personalized karaoke machine without all the extra equipment.
