Julie Christie's Oscar fashion ensemble received mixed reactions from red carpet onlookers. Some did not think her pink gloves and shoes matched her dress.¹ She was also one of few who wore a knee-length dress to the ceremony.

Christie also wore an orange ribbon, which garnered some attention. The actress wore it in support of a campaign to close the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.²

Christie was nominated for "Best Actress" for her role in Away From Her. Marion Cotillard won the award.
