On March 25, 2008, Olszweski ruled that three defendants must either learn English, or spend 24 months in jail. The defendants were facing prison time for conspiracy to commit robbery. The young men involved all needed translators as they plead guilty. Olszewki gave them a year to learn English, then they will be given a test. If they don't pass it, they will have to go to jail.
In the past, Olszewski has ordered high school dropouts to complete school, has given orders for defendants to find full-time work. Olszewski also has his staff assist in finding employment for those sentenced.
