Heroism
Jose Rizal used his pen to fight for independence. He attributed articles for the La Solidaridad newspaper when he was in Barcelona. He wanted the Filipinos to have freedom of assembly and speech and to have equal rights before the law for Filipino and Spanish.4
Achievements
Dr. Jose Rizal will be given a 2008 Awards for Excellence for the achievements of the Chinese-Filipinos by The Manila Times and the Kaisa Para Sa Kaunlaran Inc.5

- Rizal married Josephine Bracken on December 30, 1896 at the Fort Santiago cell.3
- The famous Rizal Monument in the Luneta Park in Manila was not a work of a Filipino. It was made by Richard Kissling, a swiss sculptor.1
