Joe Biden, the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president of the United States, used to stutter in childhood, a condition referenced by Barack Obama in his introduction of Biden in Springfield, Illinois.1 Biden suffered from the speech disorder during his school years, and was taunted by classmates, who called him "B-B-Biden."2 When Barack Obama announced Biden as his running mate for the 2008 Presidential Elections, he mentioned Biden's stutter while describing the senator.3 Biden wrote that "Carrying it strengthened me and, I hoped, made me a better person."4
