Jock Soto
Jock Soto was a ballet dancer for the
New York City Ballet from 1981 to June 19, 2005 when he chose to retire. He became a soloist in 1984 and then a principle dance in 1985.
Soto is half Navajo and half Puerto Rican. Born in Gallup, New Mexico he spent his childhood growing up in Phoenix, Arizona.
Jock Soto became a permanent member of the School of American Ballet (SAB) in 1996. He teaches partnering and technique classes to intermediate and advanced dancers.
On April 8, 2008 PBS aired a documentary by Gwendolen Cates called Water Flowing Together that chronicles the 25 years that Soto spent with the New York City Ballet.
