Baseball Career
While Chamberlain spent his career in the minor leagues as a starting pitcher, his first assignment when joining the New York Yankees in 2007 was as a middle-reliever set-up man for closer Mariano Rivera. Chamberlain reprised his role as set-up man for Rivera in 2008, despite reports over the winter that he would become a starter.
Personal Life
Chamberlain's father, Harlan Chamberlain is a powerful influence on his son. On April 13, 2008, Joba left the New York Yankees to be with his wheelchair-bound father, who collapsed and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
