Jennifer Garner presented the award for Best Sound Editing at the 78th Academy Awards ceremony in 2006. As she was walking out on stage to present the award, she tripped on her flowing dress and almost fell. After recovering her balance, she quipped "I do my own stunts", a reference to the fact that she performed many of her own stunts while filming Alias.

For her appearance at the ceremony, Jennifer wore a long halter-style dress designed by Michael Kors. Complimenting this dress, she wore over $1,000,000 worth of diamond jewels. The main piece she wore was an antique 18.5-carat diamond cuff designed by Cartier, worth $900,000. In her hair, she wore an 8-carat Paris 1964 hair clip, worth $76,000. Her long diamond chandelier-style earrings, worth $250,000, were by Fred Leighton. Because these earrings were made for pierced ears, which Jennifer didn't have at the time, she had her ears pierced specially a few weeks before the ceremony so that she could wear them.

"A couple of months before the ceremony, I went to pick out the jewelry I'd be wearing on the night. I picked out the diamond cuff and the hair clip, and then they showed me the most gorgeous pair of earrings I'd ever seen. It wasn't until I came to try them on that I realized they'd forgotten I didn't have pierced ears. They could see how much I loved them, and how disappointed I was that I couldn't wear them, so they said that, if I really wanted to, they could pierce my ears for me there and then. That would give them enough time to heal before the ceremony, and I could then wear the earrings. And I really did want to wear those earrings, so I said 'OK', and they pierced my ears for me before I left the boutique."
