Italian Greyhound
The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the family of gazehounds, which are dogs that hunt by sight. They are a member of the toy group. They are generally considered to be fast and agile, but do not require as much exercise as the larger breeds. They enjoy the company of people and traditionally make great family pets.

Health Problems
The italian greyhound is considered a generally healthy breed, but they are susceptible to certain health concerns. The breed's legs are considered fragile for the first 18 months of life. The breed is also at risk for epilepsy1 The "iggy" has a short coat. Dogs of this type require little maintenance, besides the occasional bath and brush.
Sports and Activities
The italian greyhound is classified as part of the toy group by the American Kennel Club. They were recognized by the AKC in 1976.2 The "Iggy" enjoys to play by running and bumping into other dogs, so it is recommended that they do not play with larger breeds. The dog also is generally a submissive and affectionate breed, which also plays well with children, as well as small pets.3
