Hypospadias
Hypospadias is a male birth defect in which the urethral opening is not located at the tip of the penis. The deformity is thought to develop between the eighth and 20th week of pregnancy during the formation of the urethra and differentiation of the genitalia.1

Symptoms
The disorder is not life-threatening but may cause a need for sitting while urinating and fertility issues.1
Treatment
The defect is often treated with surgery. Some milder cases do not require surgery.1
United States Statistics
The rate of hypospadias in the United States is about 1 in out of every 250 male births. For those with a family history of hypospadias the incidence rises to about 7 in 100 male births.1
