Humpback Chub

The Humpback Chub is an endangered cyprinid fish that is only found in the waters of the Colorado River. It's name comes from the prominent hump between the head and dorsal fin. Efforts to recover the fish have thus far failed and the fish has been extirpated from many areas it once inhabited. Fast Facts:

  1. Body is almost entirely scaleless, retaining only about 80 mid-lateral scales along the lateral line
  2. Very streamlined
  3. The species was only described in the 1940s
  4. They feed at all levels from the bottom to the surface
  5. Mostly consume invertebrates
