Often spammers will find your e-mail address through the following methods:

* Buying it. An e-mail address can be bought for fractions of a penny each from illegal distributors of alleged "opt-in" lists. Using these lists is illegal.

* Generating it. Spammers will often generate common names and variations from the public US Census data. This practice is illegal, but isn't feasible to enforce, so ISPs use anti-spam filters to do the job for them.

* Crawling it. If you ever posted your resume online or had your e-mail posted publicly, it is likely a spammer crawled it and added it to their mailing list.


Hope that helps. It's a good idea to be mindful of who has your e-mail address and to not disclose it in plain-text on the Web to avert Web crawlers.

Possibly another way to help is to get your registry clean. I did have Reg cure (pay Program) worked so-so. Uninstalled and went to free reg cleaner on the www.geeks.com site. This works better ,cleans better. Just be sure if using to BACK UP files before cleaning. No one wants registry problems.

I was getting lots of it and contacted my server. I have settings in my filter section and set this on the lowet setting. This has caught 90% of it. now it's starting to leak onto my main mail page. So,WITHOUT OPENING I send these to the spam area for blocking. Now if I could find a way to disguise my IP address soas to stop it all. Any ideas? An offshore account ? I always delete all cookies after each session also.
