Privacy 101: How to Delete Web Browser Cookies

Guide Note:Web sites use small files of information called "cookies" to store your user ID and preferences. Some sites use these for more nefarious purposes, tracking where you've been, in order to learn more about you. Clearing the cookies for those sites will erase your electronic trail. However, it will also erase whatever log-in you have stored on your computer, so make sure you remember your user names and passwords!

Mac version 2.0 and higher

  1. Go to the Firefox menu, and select "Preferences"
  2. Click the "Privacy" tab.
  3. Click on the "Show Cookies" button.
  4. You can delete specific cookies by clicking on the site name and "Remove Cookie".
  5. You can delete all the cookies by clicking on "Remove All Cookies".

Mac version 1.5

  1. Go to the Firefox menu, and select "Preferences"
  2. Click on "Privacy" in the toolbar.
  3. Click the "Cookies" tab.

  6. If you want to delete multiple cookies, hold the CTRL button as you select the ones you wish to delete.
  7. If you want to delete all cookies, type CTRL+A.
  8. Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click OK again.
