Labels are Gmail's way of helping users organize and categorize their incoming messages. This page gives you instructions on How to Create a Label in Gmail.

About Gmail Labels

  • In order to help you organize and keep track of the various messages that you receive, Gmail gives you the ability to assign Labels to each of your messages, making it easier for you to identify specific messages that you want to retrieve and view. Unlike the traditional Folders that are used by many email applications, messages in your inbox can be assigned multiple Labels depending on the various categories that they may fall under, giving you more flexibility to categorize and manage your messages.

How to Create a Label in Gmail

  1. Check the box next to the message or conversation you want to label.
  2. Go to the More Actions heading and choose New Label from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter the name of the label you wish to create and click OK.
  4. Your new label should now appear in the Labels box in the left-hand column.
