The City of Houston, Texas drew up an emergency evacuation chart in advance of the projected landfall of Hurricane Ike and placed it in a website called Houston Hide from the Wind. A mandatory evacuation order was issued at 12:00 p.m. CDT on September 11, 2008, for residents in extreme southeastern Houston.
At 4:00 p.m. on September 11, the National Hurricane Center forecasted winds in excess of 90 miles per hour at landfall for extreme southeastern Houston. People in affected areas were advised to register with the city and evacuate.1
