Hounddog Review
Upon its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007, Hounddog received mostly poor reviews. The film, about an abused girl named Lewellen (Dakota Fanning) who finds solace in Elvis Presley songs, was panned by Variety's Todd McCarthy as "uneventful" and "tedious."1
On the other hand, James Greenberg of The Hollywood Reporter thought the film was "courageous" and "powerful." Greenberg praised the performances, especially Fanning's, which he called a "triumph."2 David Edelstein of New York Magazine also thought Fanning was "mysteriously right" for the lead role, but still found the film "clumsy."3
