Holley Wimunc
The charred remains of missing 24-year-old U.S. Army Lt. Holley Wimunc were found on July 13, 2008, near Marine Corps base Camp Lejeune.1
On July 14, 2008, John Patrick Wimunc, Wimunc's estranged husband, was charged with first degree murder in the case.2 He is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. Holley Wimunc had previously held a restraining order against her husband.3

Missing Person's Case
Wimunc was reported missing on July 10, 2008, after she did not report to work at the Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg. A coworker who went to Wimunc's apartment to look for her found the apartment smoldering and smelled gasoline. When police were called, investigators found that her apartment had been intentionally set on fire. An apartment window had been shattered, and several bedrooms had burned. Winmunc was missing, and her car was still in the parking lot.4 Three days later, a charred body later found to be Wimunc's was discovered.
Arson and Murder
Wimunc's estranged husband, Marine Cpl. John Patrick Wimunc, was arrested and initially charged with arson in the case.7 On July 14, 2008, authorities announced Wimunc was also charged with first-degree murder. Another Marine, Kyle Alden, was charged with arson and being an accessory after the fact to murder.2
