Guide Note: Herb Peterson, a one-time McDonald's advertising executive, was the inventor of the Egg McMuffin. Starting as Vice President of McDonald's advertising firm, he later co-owned six of the franchise's restaurants in the Santa Barbara, CA, area.

It was at one of the Santa Barbara locations that Peterson created the McMuffin breakfast sandwich. He subsequently presented the idea to company CEO Ray Kroc, who is reported to have been "boggled" by the concept. Peterson is also credited with the company's first ad slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day." Fast Facts:
