Heat Illness refers to a variety of afflictions, ranging from minor to severe, that can result from being out in the hot sun for too long without the proper protection.

1. Types of heat illness:
   1. Heat Rash: Skin irritation that results from heavy sweating or friction
   2. Heat Cramps: Brief muscle pains or spasms in the abdomen, arms and/or legs caused by fluid loss after vigorous exercise
   3. Heat Exhaustion: Dizziness, nausea, heavy breathing, profuse sweating and headache that can lead to heatstroke
   4. Heatstroke: The body's temperature regulation system ceases working, which can cause severely elevated body temperature, seizures, dementia and brain damage
2. Heatstroke can be life-threatening
3. Seniors, children and overweight people are more at risk
4. Prevention:
   1. Limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
   2. Wear a hat and sunscreen
   3. Drink plenty of fluids
   4. Avoid strenuous activity
   5. Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing
