Hamtramck Closure

Guide Note: General Motors announced on March 31, 2008 that it would be shutting down the Hamtramck assembly plant as a result of the continuing American Axle Strike, one of its major parts suppliers. The Hamtramck closure is the 29th plant that has been shutdown in recent weeks, but is the first closure of a plant that produces passenger cars and not trucks or SUVs. The closure brings up the total number of idled workers up to over 39,000.
