Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED is an anime and manga series by Sunrise. It is part of the Gundam franchise, but takes place in an alternate universe called the Cosmic Era.

The escalating conflict between the “Naturals” of Earth and the genetically-altered “Coordinators” of the space colonies called the PLANTs leads to the destruction of the colony Junius Seven and the start of the Bloody Valentine War between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty). Gundam SEED follows the story of Kira Yamato, a civilian Coordinator living in the neutral space colony Heliopolis and his involvement with the war after the colony becomes involved in the crossfire that ultimately leads to its destruction. Taking up arms with the crew of the Archangel and piloting one of the Earth Alliance’s prototype mobile suits, the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, Kira fights against his old childhood friend Athrun Zala and his own kind to protect his friends and loved ones.

Characters

• Kira Yamato: Main protagonist of the series Gundam Seed. He is a Coordinator living in Heliopolis and is friends with Athrun Zala.

• Athrun Zala: Coordinator. Elite pilot for ZAFT is a member of Rau Le Creuset’s team. He is also the son of ZAFT Chairman Patrick Zala.

• Cagalli Yula Athha: Natural. A member of the resistance force Desert Dawn and nicknamed the “Goddess of Victory”. Daughter of the ORB representative Uzumi Nara Athha.

• Lacus Clyne: Coordinator. A popular vocalist in the PLANTs and a pacifist like her father, Chairman Siegel Clyne.

• Mwu La Flaga: Natural. Also known as the “Hawk of Endymion,” he is a mobile armor pilot for the Earth Alliance. He is known for “making the impossible possible” and has extrasensory connections to ZAFT’s Rau Le Creuset.

• Rau Le Creuset: Coordinator. One of the main antagonists of the series. He is a skilled elite ZAFT commander and is in charge of the Nazca-class destroyer, the Vesalius. He is responsible for the invasion of Heliopolis and the capture of the Earth Alliance's four prototype mobile suits. He has extrasensory connections to the Earth Alliance’s Mwu La Flaga.

• Murrue Ramius: Natural. Captain of the Archangel. She assumed the position of the battleship’s commander when the original commander was killed during the Heliopolis invasion.
