Greyhound Dog

The Greyhound is the fastest dog in the world, famous as a racing dog and known for its distinctive physique: lithe and large, up to 30 inches tall at the shoulder. Lesser known, however, is its sweet nature and suitability to be a household pet. The lifestyle of racing dogs can be taxing, with illness and accidents frequently leading to death. A number of groups exit to arrange and promote the adoption of retired racing dogs. The greyhound was first bred thousands of years ago for hunting, and in recent centuries, the breed has been maintained primarily in the UK. The Italian Greyhound is a smaller breed bearing many of the same traits.

Disposition

Greyhounds in general are sensitive and gentle, and can make exemplary pets. They also crave attention and are very intelligent. Greyhounds are good with children, but should be supervised.
