Gregg Popovich

Gregg Popovich is the head coach for the San Antonio Spurs. He is considered one the best coaches in the National Basketball Association, with NBA Championship Titles in 1999, 2003, 2005, and in 2007. He was also named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2003. In 2008, he was honored with the Air Force Academy's Distinguished Graduate Award.

Gregg Popovich was born in East Chicago, Indiana on January 28, 1949. He attended the United States Air Force Academy, and attended five years in the Air Force. He would play basketball on the US Armed Forces Team and was named Captain in 1972. He would later go on to coach at Pomona-Pitzer. He would than study coaching under the tutelage of Larry Brown at the University of Kansas. He would later serve as Brown's assistant coach at San Antonio with the Spurs.

After a assistant coaching stint with the Golden State Warriors, Popovich was named the General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations of the San Antonio Spurs. He would eventually replace Bob Hill as head coach in 1996, and in in 1999 win his first NBA Championship. He would go on to win three more championships in 2003, 2005, and 2007. Picking up an NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2003.
