Gordon Brown

Guide Note

Gordon Brown is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He took office on June 27, 2007, shortly after becoming the leader of the Labour Party. Since becoming Prime Minister, Brown has lobbied for a slight rearrangement of powers in the government, suggesting the transfer of several key duties of prime minister to parliament, and the granting of some parliamentary duties to citizens. In his campaign for Labour Party leader, he emphasized constitutional reform, fighting corruption, a relaxation of housing regulations and an expansion of doctor's hours to increase health care availability. Brown has officially maintained support for the Iraq War and the United States, though his approached is comparably reserved to that of Tony Blair. Brown has been involved in several controversies, including links to the nuclear power industry, neglecting deficient services for failure to call referendum on the EU Lisbon Treaty.
