Gib Shanley
Guide Note: Gib Shanley died on April 6, 2008 of complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the former radio announcer for the Cleveland Browns and sports anchor for ABC news affiliate WEWS in Cleveland. He announced the 1964 NFL title game in which the Browns defeated the Baltimore Colts 27-0.
In 1979 during the Iranian hostage crisis, Shanley stirred controversy when he burned an Iranian flag live on the air during a newscast in response to American flag burning that had occured in New York.
