Synopsis

Volumes one and three of Ghost Rider chronicle the adventures of stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze. In an attempt to save his dying stepfather and mentor, Blaze sacrificed his soul to the devilish Mephisto. Mephisto was unable to take full posession of the soul, so he cursed Blaze with a demon, Zarathos.¹

Under the curse, Blaze's head transformed into a flaming skull, and his motorcycle was able to travel to different realms. He eventually broke free from Zarathos at the end of volume one. Subsequent stories involving Blaze were depicted in volume three.

Volume two, which debuted in 1990, featured a new Ghost Rider named Dan Ketch. Blaze and Ketch became allies, and both eventually donned the Ghost Rider alter ego.
