New Multiplayer Modes
There are three new competitive game types:
- - Submission, pits two teams against each other in a capture-the-flag type scenario, but instead with an A.I. controlled NPC in the middle that must be subdued and taken back to a circular endzone located in each team’s starting point.
- - Wingman is essentially a variant of Team Deathmatch, but with ten people split up into five teams. There is no-respawn and the first team to reach 15 points wins the match. The last one, Guardian, is a re-worked version of Assassination. Each team has an appointed leader that gives his or her teammates the ability to respawn indefinitely so long as he or she remains alive. Leaders can also be tracked by everyone through a directional marker displayed on the HUD.
- - Gears of War 2 also introduces a new cooperative gametype called Horde. In this mode, a team of players must work together in order to defend against 50 waves of enemies, with the difficulty ramped up after every ten. Players can restart from their most recently completed wave if they have been killed, but this only applies to private, system link or local games. Public matches will, by default, reset to the first wave.
