Brief Background

Gawain is figure in Arthurian legend and literature. One of the texts for which his character is well known is called Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Gawain also features in French literature.

His character is thought to exemplify many of the ideal traits of the chivalrous knight. He is the son of Morgause who is the sister of King Arthur and is usually portrayed as a great warrior with a strong sense of loyalty to his family and his kingdom. He also written to have a knowledge of herbs and natural remedies.
