Gavin and Stacey US Season Premiere
The U.S. premiere of Gavin and Stacey, a BBC sitcom starring Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, debuted on BBC America on August 26, 2008.1 The series first aired in Britain in May 2007 and has been nominated for a total of nine awards, winning five. Two of those awards include British Academy Television Awards in 2008.
Recently, NBC bought the rights to remake the show, but further details have not been announced. The eventual U.S. remake of the show reportedly will follow the same storyline, but characters will live in the United States rather than in England.2
The Story
Gavin and Stacey develop a relationship over the telephone. When the finally meet in person, they immediately connect and plan to get married, but both wonder if they will last when their friends and family become involved.
NBC Deal
NBC has yet to announce plans to premiere a U.S. remake of Gavin and Stacey, but has released some information about the show. The U.S. version of the show will follow the same storyline as the British version, but characters will live in the United States rather than England.2 Gavin will be from New Jersey and Stacey will be from South Carolina.2 Gavin and Stacey reportedly will meet in Times Square.2
