Gary Staton
Gary Staton is a Nebraska man who abandoned nine of his 11 children at Omaha's Creighton Medical Center on September 24, 2008. He told the hospital the mother of the children died 17 months ago after giving birth to the youngest, and he felt overwhelmed by the responsibility.
Under the Nebraska Safe Haven Law, implemented in July 2008, children under the age of 19 may be left at a hospital if they are in immediate danger.
