Guide Note:Gabe Kapler is an outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers. Kapler was drafted in 1995 by the Detroit Tigers and was quickly considered a top prospect. He led the South Atlantic league in hits, doubles, and extra base hits. Two seasons later he also won the MVP award for the Southern League. Kapler was also the first player to reach the major leagues that was selected as the 57th pick by the Detroit Tigers. Kapler had a very solid first couple of years batting around .300 with runners in scoring position and late inning games. Late in 2005 season, Kapler ruptured his Achilles tendon while running the bases off of a homerun by Tony Graffanino.

Retirement On December 12, 2006, Kapler announced that he was retiring from professional baseball. He would continue to be a coach in the minor league system. In 2007, he was the coach for the Greenville Drive, which is the minor league team for the Boston Red Sox. Kapler, however, only lasted one year coaching minor leagues before he decided he wanted to come out of retirement and play baseball again. Return to the Major Leagues On September 20, 2007, Kapler announced that he would like to play for the 2008 baseball season. After this announcement, Kapler signed a one year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, however, the contract was not guaranteed. Prior to the start of the 2008 season, the last game Kapler played was on October 1, 2006 for the Boston Red Sox. Fast Facts:
