Liddy and McCain
McCain appeared on Liddy's radio show, and Liddy referred to him as an "old friend."6 The two posed for pictures together in May 2007. Liddy has made at least four contributions to McCain's campaigns, including $1,000 for his 2008 presidential campaign.7 On David Letterman's show in October 2008, Letterman confronted McCain about his relationship with Liddy. McCain said that he was open about his relationship with Liddy and that Obama tried to deny his relationship with Bill Ayers. McCain also said that Liddy "...paid his debt. He went to prison and paid his debt, as people do. I'm not in any way embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy."3
