G. David Low

G. David Low (1956-2008) was an astronaut who flew on three Space Shuttle missions between 1990 and 1993. Low first worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, from 1980 to 1984 before being selected as an astronaut candidate. He performed a five hour, fifty minute spacewalk as the payload commander aboard STS-57 in 1993. Low died of colon cancer on March 16, 2008. Low's father, George M. Low, was instrumental in the formation of NASA in 1958, and served as Deputy Administrator of NASA from 1969 to 1976.
