Actor and radio personality Fred Crane died at the age of 90 on August 21, 2008. He suffered from diabetes. Crane delivered the opening line in the movie Gone With the Wind.1

Death
Crane had been hospitalized near Atlanta in the weeks leading up to his death. He successfully survived surgery to repair a vein in his leg, before developing a blood clot in his lungs, which contributed to his death.4 2
Brief Biography
Crane's role in Gone with the Wind was his first acting role. He later appeared in the 1949 film The Gay Amigo. After a handful of other television and theater appearances in the 1960s, Crane took a hosting position at KFAC in Southern California.3 He worked as a broadcaster for 40 years, before returning to Atlanta where he and his fifth wife, Terry Lynn Crane, operated a bed and breakfast and a Gone with the Wind museum.2
