Evan Pala
August 11, 2008: Eight-year-old Evan Pala was mauled by a black bear while hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. The boy's father pulled the 86-pound bear off him and pelted it with rocks and sticks to drive it away. Evan and his father were released from the hospital with minor cuts and bruises after the unprovoked attack.1
