Erik Johnson
Professional hockey player Erik Johnson plays for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League. Johnson was selected first overall in the 2006 NHL draft.1 He is expected to miss the entire 2008-09 regular season after tearing his ACL and MCL during a pre-season golf outing.2

Knee Injury
Johnson suffered a season-ending injury in mid-September of 2008 while on a team bonding trip with fellow St. Louis Blues players and management. He reportedly got his right foot caught between the brake and the accelerator on a golf cart, tearing two ligaments. Two MRIs confirmed the damage and corrective surgery was performed. Although he is not expected to play during the 2008-09 season, a full recovery is predicted.2
Hockey Career
Prior to joining the NHL, Johnson played hockey in high school at Holy Angels High School in Minnesota. Starting in 2004, he played with the U.S. National Team Development Program, winning gold medals with Team U.S.A. at the 2005 and 2006 World Under-18 Championships.1 Johnson was selected first overall in the 2006 NHL entry draft, but chose to play one season at the University of Minnesota before joining the NHL. He made his professional debut in the 2007-2008 season, splitting it between the Blues and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen. Johnson played in 69 regular season games with the Blues his rookie year, scoring five goals and 28 assists.3
