Eowyn is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. She is a shieldmaiden of Rohan who rides to war and destroys the Witch-King of Angmar at the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

Brief Background

Eowyn is a fictional human character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. She is the daughter of Theodwyn and Eomund. Her father died in the field of battle when she was three, and her mother died of grief soon after.

Eowyn's character is often seen as having suffered from depression as a result of her parents death as well as her thwarted desire to fight alongside the men during battles. She was raised by her uncle, Theoden, but he soon fell prey to the black spell of Grima, and Eowyn's sorrow was added to as she had to watch the kingdom of Rohan crumble around her until the arrival of Gandalf and Aragorn.

She falls in love with Aragorn, but he makes it clear to her that he cannot return her love.
