  • 1837: Family settles at 50 Wimpole Street. Elizabeth bursts a blood vessel, affecting her lungs, the first in a series of serious illnesses
  • 1840: Brother, Edward, drowns in Babbacombe Bay; she writes "De Profundis", articulating her grief
  • 1845: Robert Browning, visits Elizabeth at Wimpole Street and writes a declaration of love the next day
  • 1846: Marries Robert Browning secretly in London; they settle happily in Florence
  • 1849: Son Robert Barrett-Browning ("Pen") is born
  • 1857: Her father dies, still unreconciled to Elizabeth and her marriage
