Influenced by cartoonists Charles Schulz and Hank Ketcham, Kevin Fagan wanted create a comic strip students could relate to without involving politics.¹ In 1979, he created Drabble, which features humorous moments involving members of the Drabble family.

The main characters of the strip include the always-hungry patriarch Ralph Drabble, his wife June (often referred to as "Honeybunch"), his klutzy 19-year-old son Norman, and the youngest (and smartest) member of the family, Patrick.
